Self equalizing goggles are a relatively new concept so previous attempts by others at designing a robust device has had some issues. Lack of replacement parts, lack of iteration, and fragile designs has left much to be desired. With the Sea Gypsy Freediving Goggles, we hope to solve these issues. How they work:
The principle in our design is quite simple. A soft ultra-flexible silicone membrane seals the space around the eye, holding the goggle’s lens in front of the diver’s pupil. When the diver descends, the silicone membrane fills with water, allowing the space around the eye to become smaller, with out exposing the eye to water. When you ascend the water retreats out of the membrane the same way it entered.
Advantages:
Membrane goggles are much better than fluid goggles in principle and use. The wide flat lens of the membrane goggles allows for a large “mask-like” field of view that is natural for the diver. The eye’s focal distance can converge closer to the eyes, allowing for better near-vision with tasks in front of the face. Fluid goggles, have a strong curved lens with small central focus point that forces the user into a very narrow field of view.
